Inez was born on 5 July 1939 in Gooding, Idaho, to Frank
Lequerica and Josephine Gabiola. Her father never talked much about
his immigration to the US from Nabarniz, but did tell colorful stories about
his days as a sheepherder. Her parents met at a boarding house in
Shoshone, where Inez was raised. She describes her life there,
including the many Basque families in town and all the fun they had
together. After graduating from high school, Inez attended business school for a year before working as a bookkeeper. She met her husband Arnaud at a Basque dance in Boise, when he put his arm around her and claimed her as his date! The couple was married in 1958, and have raised two sons. Inez was the bookkeeper for the family trucking business for years before her retirement. Today, she enjoys attending local Basque functions with her proud family. She has made several trips to her parents' homeland, and describes her emotion at seeing her father's birthplace. Inez--although a proud American--can not separate this identity from her Basque heritage.
